iPhone Dev and Culture RSS

The Apple iPhone is going to change the landscape of the "mobile Web". There is currently no real standard for this kind of device as a platform - and Apple has made good and sure that they are at the forefront of its development. Here are some points of interest on the map of "iPhone Culture".

Users are experiencing some issues with installing the new iPhone 1.0.1 software/firmware release. Problems are most likely to occur if you made some type of modification to the device’s software through the use of Jailbreak or other hacking methods. In most cases, simply restoring the iPhone will allow proper installation of the 1.0.1 update. To perform a restore, Connect your iPhone to your Mac or PC and, in iTunes, click the Restore button under the Summary tab. Restoring the phone will erase contacts, calendars, photos and other data on the phone, but will restore automatically backed-up information including text messages, notes, call history, contact favorites, sound settings, widget settings, etc. Failing that, perform an “Erase and Install” as follows: go to the Settings application, tap General then select the Erase All Content and Settings. This will delete all media and data on the iPhone, as well as recent calls, etc., and all other settings. If you perform this operation and stop experiencing crashes, you might have problematic data being synchronized to the iPhone that is automatically put back when the phone is restored. In this case, you might want to go to iTunes, select Preferences from the File menu, then iPhone and delete your backed up iPhone settings — this includes text messages, notes, call history, contact favorites, sound settings, widget settings.

Google has launched an interface for iPhone users that makes using Google on your iPhone super easy. It’s powered by the AJAX search API, and also supports image search. And that’s the real news here: they’ve rolled out image search for the AJAX search API. Anything build on this API benefits from fast access to image search results, a full suite of raw, javascript-accessible properties and customization of the results using HTML and CSS.

iTweet : Bitchin New Twitter App for iPhone

It is designed to be SUPER easy to post notes from your active life. “View New” feature has saved us loads of time by only downloading new tweets - a lifesaver when you’re on the slower EDGE network. Operate one handed - either hand. If you are like us you’re usually juggling more than just your Tweets. We’ve made this interface simple but effective, and we hope you enjoy it as much as we do. We have successfully written a tool named iPhoneInterface allowing for some basic manipulation of things on the phone, and are releasing it tonight. We are including source code so you can understand the techniques we have used so far. We will be expanding the functionality of this tool significantly tomorrow. The best news is that we have prototype code that allows the ability to: * Run any desired application already residing on the phone. * Control what processes run on the phone (currently implementation is very hackish) * Move files around on the phone * Enable viewing of verbose information during the restore process * Activate the phone without iTunes and without a token
